New database: Wharton Research Data Services

Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS ) is a web-based business data research service from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Johns Hopkins subscribes to the following databases that are part of WRDS, and are available only through individual accounts to current SAIS students and full-time faculty:

Global Insight
Provides historical and current data on national income accounts, balance of payments, foreign debt, exchange rates, money supply and employment, as well as other national level categories. Data from the International Monetary Fund’s International Financial Statistics database is included in Global Insight.

The Center for Research in Security Prices
CRSP maintains a comprehensive collection of security price, return, and volume data for the NYSE, AMEX, and Nasdaq stock markets. Additional CRSP files provide stock indices, beta- and cap-based portfolio, Treasury bond and risk-free rates, and mutual fund databases.

Once you have set up an account with WRDS, you will have unlimited access via web, SSH, and/or FTP, as well as 750 MB of home/projects storage on a server at Wharton. You will also be eligible to contact Wharton staff for help with database access, data queries, and programming in SAS, FORTRAN, or C.

Updated news source: Access World News

One of our Newsbank databases, previously called International Newspapers, is now known as Access World News. The update has increased the number of included newspapers from around 200 to over 1300!

Access World News has the full-text content for local and regional newspapers from the US and around the world. Note that many, but not all, of these papers are also available on LexisNexis.
