Welcome! As Spring '07 gets underway, SAIS Library is pleased to announce the following changes and upgrades:
NEW ONLINE RESOURCE
Economist.com is now available to all in the JHU community. It includes the entire print edition of The Economist magazine, offered in a usable, viewable, and printable format, and features content not found in the print edition, such as news analysis, Cities Guides, and Country Briefings. Weekly magazine content is posted to the online edition by 6pm GMT on Thursdays.
Note that you can also use one entry page for all the EIU products JHU subsribes to: EIU.com
LAPTOP POLICY CHANGE
Students may now use their laptops in all areas of the Library, except the 8th floor Periodicals Room, which has been designated a laptop-free zone.
Enhanced links between ERes and print reserves
Each electronic reserve (ERes) course page now includes a link to the listing of print reserves in the JHU Libraries catalog. Note that you should use the *sort by title* option to get the complete, alphabetized list of print reserve titles for your course.
The five Xerox machines on the 6th floor Library have been replaced by brand new Canon copiers. If you have questions about any of the new features or need help, please ask the staff at the Circulation Desk.
Two of the three printers on the 6th floor have been relocated so that all 6th floor printers are now closer to the Pharos workstation, where you authorize your print jobs. We're also ordering more eco-friendly paper for our copiers and printers. The new paper is made from 35% recycled material.
Reference Area Workstations
The Library has five new, high-end public workstations, replacing five of the older public workstations. The Bloomberg workstation has also been upgraded with completely new hardware and updated software.
Firefox (web browser) is now available on all of the Library's public workstations.
New double sided printer: We'll soon be adding that capability to one of the 6th floor printers, making available a total of two double-sided printers.
Microsoft Office will be upgraded to the 2003 version on all of the public workstations. Some of the workstations have already been upgraded.
Remote Access will soon be easier to use. We'll advertise this when its ready!
See the technology page for useful information, including instructions on how to configure your laptop to print to the Library's Laptop Room printers and the SAIS Basement printer.
